New practice nets to support the development of new junior, women's and disability cricket teams at Bowdon Vale Cricket Club.
On the 1st November 2024 we'd raised £25,076 with 174 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
If we are fortunate enough to raise more than our target, additional funds will be instrumental in improving our facilities around the clubhouse to better cater for our increasing number of women, junior and mixed-ability members.
Bowdon Vale Cricket Club, tucked away at the end of Priory Street in Altrincham, has been a volunteer-run village club for more than 150 years.
Established in 1873, we’re a welcoming, family-friendly Club, and are proud that multiple generations of families in Bowdon Vale have played and continue to play for us and enjoy our facilities as valued social members.
We have two Saturday teams, an over-40s team, and a Sunday friendly side.
But our focus, and the future of the club, are our juniors. We run All Stars for 5-8 years, Dynamos for 8-12 years and junior U-9, U-11, and U-13 teams adding U-15 in 2025. We began a Women's team this season which has got off to a great start, winning tournaments.
On weekdays our clubhouse is home to The Pavilion Project, a service providing education and personal skills development to learning-disabled adults, working with educational establishments, families and carers. Building on more than five years' work with the Cheshire Cricket Board to promote disability cricket, the Club has been selected as an ECB Disability Cricket Champion Club, offering access to the game to people with all levels of ability and playing host to representative games of the Cheshire Disability cricket team.
But our facilities don't match our ambitions or the needs of our growing and diverse membership.
Our current nets are over 30 years old and no longer meet our players' needs. The concrete surface has deteriorated, the matting is wearing through and there are holes in the side netting.
We need to offer suitable, safe and high-quality practice facilities so that we can attract, develop and retain players of all abilities.
Because our facilities are used by all abilities from complete beginners to those with physical and learning disabilities, they must be safe and fit for purpose.
New practice nets are our club’s top investment priority - they are critical to our goals, both in supporting and growing our junior set-up, and offering coaching and development for all players.
We have a detailed plan for state-of-the-art nets and a supplier has been selected! We have raised around half of the funding required for the project, and members have made and sold delicious cakes and hiked the three peaks to help get us some way to where we need to get to.
But we still need to raise £24,000, and we are thrilled that Sport England has seen the value in our plans and has awarded matched funding of £12,000 - if we can raise £12,000 from 100 unique supporters through this Crowdfunder.
Every penny you help us raise will be matched by Sport England up to £12,000. The funds will go straight into the development of the new nets and the new nets alone - and, with your help, they will be ready for our players at the start of next season!
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and deliver this project.
If you can help us in any way, everyone at the club will be incredibly grateful. And remember, every penny of your support is matched by Sport England up to £12,000.
Whether you are an individual or a business, from every single person at Bowdon Vale Cricket Club, thank you SO much for your support. It means an incredible amount to our club, our members, and all our players.
