Our mission is steadfast, and we will continue helping people in need for the long term. This includes providing them with healthy food, a safe and comfortable environment, advice when necessary, and tea, coffee and cake.
As food costs rise, the food bank’s operating expenses have increased. Simultaneously, donations are declining as our regular donors contend with higher heating bills and other financial pressures themselves. Yet, the demand for our services has never been greater. We urgently need help to continue supporting the most vulnerable members of our community.
During the first half of this year, The Okehampton Food Bank provided emergency food assistance to 3,000 local residents, reflecting the organization's most challenging period since it was formed in 2011.
This is double the people we helped during the same period last year, and accounts for a rapid depletion of funds.
Based on our first six month figures, we're feeding roughly 110 children per month. And we're just one food bank covering a limited area but with diverse needs. 110 children a month, who otherwise would go hungry if it weren't for your generosity.
Donations will be used to cover the rising costs of purchasing extra food supplies, as well as the operational expenses required to maintain our services amidst a near doubling of food parcel distribution and an increase in people facing financial hardship and severe food hardship.
