This Christmas, we’re launching a Crowdfunder to raise money to fund our emergency helpline over winter so that we can be there for families facing homelessness by providing advice and support to help them find a safe, secure home.
With temperatures plummeting, thousands of people and families will be spending Christmas in a car, a tent, or doorway. The housing emergency is spiralling, will you help us answer the phone today?
Helpline advisor Nadeem explains the situation...
Nearly 139,000 children will wake up this Christmas morning without a place to call home - the highest figure on record, up 7,400 in three months.
That’s 1 in 85 children in England who are now homeless. Yes, we’re outraged too.
This can’t go on.
Our emergency helpline is seeing a huge number of calls from people facing homelessness or living in some of the worst type of temporary accommodation, where entire families are cramped into one room, forced to share beds.
These statistics are down to government failure. A failure to build social housing. A failure to take the housing emergency seriously. This is unacceptable.
The housing emergency is spiralling, and we must be there for people at the sharp end of the housing emergency to help them find safe, secure accommodation now.
Our emergency helpline will be open this winter, taking calls from families struggling with housing issues or homelessness.
This winter 6,900 people facing homelessness are contacting our helpline. £20,000 could help us speak to 680 of these people.
£29 will help fund one call to our emergency helpline. Donate today and you could help us answer the next emergency call.
One call can be enough to help a family secure a safe place to call home.
Donations will be used to fund Shelter’s Helpline Plus and Voice services between 13/12/2023 and 31/03/2024. Any funds raised in excess of the forecasted cost to run these services during this period, £884,637, will be used to fund Shelter’s and Shelter Scotland’s general work wherever they are needed most.
If you choose to receive marketing from Shelter when making a donation using Crowdfunder, your name and email address will be shared with us. You can change your preferences at any time by giving us a call on 0300 330 1234, or emailing [email protected]. Shelter and Shelter Trading Ltd will use your details, but will never sell or swap them for marketing. Read our privacy policy for more details.
