We are aiming to raise funds so that our historical village cricket ground can continue hosting adult cricket matches

This is for the long term maintenance and storage of the nets as well as other ground costs resulting in the expansion of cricket at the club as a result of the continuation of cricket.
We are a village Cricket Club based in Colehill, Dorset. As a result of the changing nature of cricket, spiraling costs of insurance and repairs of neighbouring properties, an idyllic and historical cricket ground was beginning to become too small for adult cricket.
Costs were drawn up for extensive netting around the ground to ensure the safety of adult cricket but as a result of listed oak trees and the restrictions imposed upon netting in the proximity to them; this option came to in excess of £35,000. Simply unfeasible for a local social club run by volunteers to cover; it was decided adult cricket was to end at the ground.
Upset at the decision, members of the team set up a petition to raise awareness of the plight of the cricket ground in the hope that the community may rally in support and change the position of the committee.
The petition exceeded all expectations and reached over 27,000 signatures in the space of 5 days. The local community rallied together and demonstrated what adult cricket in the village meant to them.
Neighbours previously unaware of just how valuable the cricket heritage of the village was to the community were given a clear insight into how much it meant. As a result some have now come forward with sizeable offers to cover a portion of the cost of netting.
With this in mind the committee have reversed their decision to end adult cricket providing the funds be raised and logistics met to erect the netting required to ensure adult cricket at the ground can continue safely.
Please help us do this!
All funds raised will be ring-fenced for the cricketing activities of the social club.
This includes:
- Netting to be erected to cover the higher risk areas of the ground
- Legal and planning advice and services regarding tree and H&S management
- Insurance costs of adult cricket at the club
- A reserved fund for incidental damages caused to the lower risk neighboring properties that do not need extensive net cover
