Accessible site improvements throughout the Rookery Gardens and the woodlands in the Local Nature Reserve.
The Rookery Gardens and Local Nature Reserve are run by SCCoop (Streatham Common Cooperative). We are by the community for the community. In the ten years since we started, the SCCoop Rookery has been transformed into a beautiful horticultural and ecological space, has won many awards including London in Bloom "Gold" for the last 3 years, and welcomes thousands of visitors every year.
HOWEVER did you know that 66% of the income to run the Rookery comes from people like you and me, with only 33% coming from Lambeth Council? Did you also know we have no business connection with the Rookery cafe and do not receive any funding from them.
Following Covid, when the Rookery was a lifeline to so many of us, SCCoop used up all our reserves for essential repairs, and now urgently need the support of the community to maintain our facilities and keep our volunteers safe.
We need £15,000 from the community to keep the gardens open, and to enable us to continue transitioning to being a fully volunteer delivered organisation. We're delighted to say that your contributions will be matched by AVIVA, and the combined total of £30,000 will enable us to complete the changes we need to make.
All the work SCCoop does is because we share your commitment to addressing the impact of climate change at a local level. Everything we plan and do is designed to be sustainable. We are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact, and promoting biodiversity, through protecting and enhancing the Rookery's natural habitats and wildlife, minimising waste, reducing our energy and water use ,and engaging with the local community to raise awareness about environmental issues.
We are a volunteer-led cooperative supported by a very small team of dedicated horticultural, conservation and community engagement staff, working with hundreds of volunteers each year.
