Develop Spilsby Recreation Ground with a PlayZone, SkatePark & Pavilion to promote financial well being, activities & a connected community
by Spilsby PlayZone, SkatePark and Pavilion Development in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom
On the 19th February 2024 we'd raised £44,687 with 223 supporters in 104 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We've decided to stretch our target. We know we are still expecting support from a number of local and national businesses, and we need to raise as much as possible. The Extra funding will help towards offering the best services and facilities and allow us to reach development completion as soon as possible. Please help where you can, and please spread the word.
Thank you again!
Who are we?
Spilsby Recreation Ground is a based in the Market Town of Spilsby, Lincolnshire. The hub for sports and recreation is run and managed by Trustees, who are also unpaid volunteers. The Trustees oversee, manage and improve the facilities for the community to appreciate. The Recreation Ground is appreciated by a differing crowd of users including Football, Yoga, Judo, Dance, Table Tennis, Tennis, Basketball, Groups, Kids Play and Dog Walkers, of all ages. By far the biggest user is Spilsby Town FC, who are actively growing and expanding year on year. The Pavilion is a facility that is well used, but post Covid has seen costs increase and heavy pressure on being able to continue to to offer a great facility at a great price to the community. We're confident with the support of the community, we can help raise enough finance to secure our facility, expand and improve the offering, while also working with the community to better their skills and employability and financial understanding as we tackle these challenging times in our lives.
It is the duty of the Trustees to improve and manage our unique facility for our community to enjoy.
By teaming up with Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure & Culture, we were able to progress in terms of connecting with the right people and identifying the opportunities available to the area to invest in the right areas for the best outcomes. The invaluable connections and introductions from Magna Vitae has meant we are in a positive position to make our plans a reality.
This Crowdfunding is vital to enable us to reach our financial goals for developing the area, which has been massively underfunded over the last 15 years. It will enable us to invest £500,000 in the sports and well being within Spilsby, to ensure the cost of living crisis and greater demands for our services can continue to be provided. Since COVID-19, our costs and our demand on the services we offer have escalated, so we need to improve and develop to continue to offer such great services. We'll work with training schools and providers to offer courses and advice on finance and employment, specifically targeting those who are seeking employment and experiencing difficulties in becoming financially independent and financially aware, or are on long term unemployment. We' help where we can to create a better, more knowledgeable community that can manage and thrive financially, in health and in community connections.
For the last 4 years, the Trustees, together with local and National groups, including, The FA, The Football Foundation, East Lindsey District Council, Spilsby Town Council, Spilsby Show, Lincolnshire County Council, Spilsby Town FC, Spilsby Hockey Club, the LTA, National Lottery and Local Business Owners, have all worked for towards the same goal, to improve and develop the facilities available to the Spilsby and surrounding community. We have identified five main aims in our project:-
(1) To offer help, advice, training and opportunity to those struggling post COVID-19 issues, including financial wellbeing and promoting a thriving community to face all challenges, be it financial, mental health or employment.
(2) To ensure our community has the best facilities for combating health, well being and mental health through sports and recreation.
(3) To develop and progress our sporting opportunities in and around Spilsby for young people, disabled, female and older, with an aim to promote inclusion, relationships and health.
(4) To develop, help and promote employment in and around our community by developing, training and advising the community on skills an opportunities to find or advance in employment.
(5) To ensure the continued services can be offered to the community in a post COVID-19 environment, where pressure on services through increased costs is proving difficult when looking to continue day to day and to develop and improve services to improve financial awareness and management of the community.
Our plan is in two phases.
The cost of Phase One is £300k
Phase One will involve a plan is to regenerate the area with a state-of-the-art 2G Multi Sport PlayZone and a Multi-Use Skate Park (Phase One) and a refurbished Pavilion to increase Revenue Generating facilities (Phase Two). The 2G PlayZone will be suitable for multi sports including Football, Hockey, Cricket, Basketball, Tennis, Padel and Netball. We are lucky to be supported by National Sporting Bodies including the FA, and the Football Foundation.
The outcome of the development will allow the creation of a new Spilsby Hockey Club, Spilsby Netball Club, Tennis Coaching, Cricket All-round Coaching, and a new Local Leisure League for Footballers. In addition, we will work with local Youth Groups to offer Free open Sessions for youths to combat ASB and Mental Health amongst the youth.
The Multi-Sport Skate Park will offer Skateboarding, Scooting, Roller Blading and BMX Biking for all ages, with a focus on the youth and an ambition to reduce anti-social behaviour and increase health, wellbeing, and social interaction. The facility will be part of a uniquely landscaped area to really allow all ages to access the facilities as far wide as the East Coast, where we'll promote a healthier lifestyle for body and mind.
Phase two will see the Pavilion developed to benefit attract New users, but also benefit existing users and Spilsby Town FC. The current Pavilion was built 35 Years ago, and as you can imagine, times have changed, and with time, facilities became outdated and unsuitable. Our plan includes:-
New FA approved changing facilities
New Larger Car Park
Safeguarding improvements
A Second revenue generating Wellbeing Hall
Spectator Toilets
A Site Managers office
A Clubhouse/Cafe/Community Meeting Point
An Patio area to spectate and enjoy
Meeting Room for delivering Financial and Debt Advice and skills, New Skills for employability, and Employment training within the Community.
Solar Panels to guide the venue towards a Carbon Neutral location, to decrease costs and improve the environment.
Our aim is to see the property develop for the future, to generate revenue that will help future generations continue to improve the area, and to create employment opportunities, confidence and help those in need of financial advice and help use our community hub for finding that help. To advice and communicate through training and drop in's for those looking to better equip themselves with financial knowledge that will see them work through any problems with the cost of living crisis or an unfortunate situation they find themselves in.
To promote financial awareness and provide training and advice for the community to be financially aware as we look into supporting those in difficulties in the current economic climate. We'll work with local accountants, training colleges and professional charities to offer support, training and advice in our new state of the art meeting room.
Our priorities will always be Wellbeing, Health, Inclusion, Female Sport and Disability Football, while ensuring the financial security and lifespan of the facility, and those using it remains in place for future generations. We aim to deliver this by working with Organisations and Trainers to set up workshops and Seminars for the community to help make Spilsby a better, economically stable location to live.
The cost of Phase Two is £200k
The total financial cost of Phase One and Phase Two is £667k.
We are already well funded after an extensive period of planning and devising with major sporting bodies and funding partners. We are confirmed 80% funded already, with another 10% in Grant Applications, but we now need your help!! As part of our Business Plan, we must raise £40,000 through Crowdfunding, with the help of you and your kind donations. Your donation and your support will see us bring this ambitious development to fruition, and we’re not that far off.
We will spend the £40,000 as follows:
£40,000 will be contributed to the already sourced and secured £450,000 in order for us to commence with all phases and complete the development by January 2025. If we don't reach our intended Target, we will look to launch another Crowdfunding program in 2024 to raise the difference, but we are fully expecting to reach the £40,000 target before the closing date of the Crowd Funding program.
We aim to begin our development in Summer 2024, with completion of both phases concluding by Summer 2025.
The Playzone and the SkatePark will become a hub for health and sport, used by all ages and all abilities. The PlayZone will benefit from being designed for a number of different sports, be it Football, Tennis, Netball and Hockey. There will be bookable slots and Free Slots, so those groups who wish to set up user groups can benefit from the Free Slots when available.
Renovating and developing the Pavilion into a larger, more modern space, we’ll be increasing capacity to encourage usage for many more people. Already, the facility is fully booked in the evening, but by creating innovative and modern space for training and learning, we’ll be able to book the increased facilities to new users within the community. The creation of a new Well Being Hall will allow for increased fitness and well being facilities for the community and the Local Senior & Junior Football Teams. This will increase the employment of qualified coaches and sports professionals, working with Spilsby Town Football Club and sporting organisations like Magna Vitae. Meeting rooms, catering and entertainment facilities will be created to allow the community to benefit from extra training and learning courses that can be fully staffed and manned for an entire day to teach and prepare those looking for work or looking to progress with extra skills. Our aim is to encourage the community to learn, and with the development expected in Spilsby, the growth in population will result in an increased need to be as well taught and as well experienced as possible when seeking employment. The area of Spilsby is one that is deprived and requires help to decrease unemployment, so our development can help to achieve this.
In addition to the Spilsby Community, our development of the facilities will target the wider community. Spilsby has a population of 3500, but the larger surrounding areas we will target will increase the target audience to 20000.
Finally, we’ll increase employment opportunities in the area with our development. A Site Manager will be employed on a Full Time Contract to manage and secure the facility. In addition to this, our development will create several Part Time positions and voluntary positions where we work with local education settings and youth groups to offer youths in the community the opportunity to gain experience on a voluntary basis that will add vital skills for when they look to seek employment.
