Twenty years ago, I purchased Dar Khalifa, back then a rambling mansion set squarely in the middle of a Casablanca shantytown. The first year, spent renovating the property and exorcising the jinns, was described in my book, The Caliph’s House.
Our plan now is for Dar Khalifa to fulfil a new role as The Scheherazade Foundation's Centre for Teaching Stories – a place where cultures come together, and where ideas and stories are shared.
With your generosity, we have managed to renovate the actual house, but there's a massive amount more to do – to shore up the ancient walls, revive the gardens, and to get the large public spaces ready for events.
We are indebted for your generosity, for your belief in The Caliph’s House, and for sharing the vision in which we so whole-heartedly believe.
